Holistic Remedies for Opiate Withdrawal

Holistic remedies for opiate withdrawalIf we are honest about opiate withdrawal, thinking about using a holistic remedy to help is not only scary but seemingly unrealistic. But using anything can sometimes be better than using nothing. This is especially true for a person who can afford or doesn’t want to go to an opiate detox or opiate rehab. Thankfully, there are holistic remedies for opiate withdrawal that don’t have to include an inpatient opiate detox or that are incorporated into an inpatient opiate detox.

Get sun or go tan

Eat an alkaline heavy diet

Alkaline heavy diet means whole foods, grains, veggies and fruits. Diet and nutrition always makes for great holistic remedies for opiate withdrawal. If you can, eat healthy veggies, fruits and whole grains as well as chicken and you will find that your health problems begin to improve and heal.

Get a massage

What is an alkaline diet?

Every year there is a new diet trend to hit the public and most recently it has been the alkaline diet. Trying out the latest diet is pretty much an American pastime. This is because those of us on diets don’t want to just lose weight we also want to cure our health problems. Some sites will tell you the alkaline diet can do this.

So what is an alkaline diet?

The alkaline diet is mostly vegetarian. It includes fresh vegetables, some fresh fruits, and alkaline-promoting foods including soy products, some nuts, grains, and legumes. It is pretty much vegetarian. The alkaline diet discourages eating acid-promoting foods such as meat, poultry, dairy products, processed foods, white sugar, white flour and caffeine.

The whole point of eating this way in the alkaline diet is to balance out our body’s PH level. Our PH level is the measure of exactly how acidic or how alkaline we are. A pH of 0 is totally acidic and a pH of 14 is completely alkaline. A pH of 7 is neutral. Human beings have more than one pH level. For instance, our stomach has a pH ranging from 1.35-3.5 which is acidic. This is to help with digestion. However our blood must always be slightly alkaline with a pH of 7.35 to 7.45.

So what is the theory behind the alkaline diet?

The theory behind the alkaline diet is that eating certain foods, specifically the ones listed above can help maintain the body’s ideal pH balance in order to improve overall health. Regardless though, the body maintains its pH with or without dieting. Being on the alkaline diet may change the pH level in your urine but it won’t change the pH level of your blood which your body keeps totally balanced regardless if you are eating meat or veggies.

The alkaline diet is basically healthy, says Marjorie Nolan, RD, an American Dietetic Association spokeswoman. “But our body regulates our pH between 7.35 and 7.45 no matter how we eat.”

So what are the benefits of the alkaline diet if there are any?

Some researchers have speculated that the alkaline diet might slow bone loss and muscle waste. It may also increase growth hormone and make certain chronic diseases less likely. It may or may not ease lower back pain too. All of this, however, has not been proven scientifically of the alkaline diet. There is also no evidence backing up the idea that a vegetarian diet or alkaline diet can prevent cancer. It may slow the rate of colon cancer but usually those who are eating healthy have healthy lifestyles and it could be contributed to the mixture of both.

Because there is little to no evidence backing up that a diet such as the alkaline diet can significantly change our blood pH if you have a highly irregular blood pH it may be a sign of a larger problem such as kidney failure. This is not a dietary issue and medical help should be sought out.

The whole point of a diet is to find balance and eating healthy habits as well as living habits. Before starting any diet you should always consult with your doctor the risks and benefits of doing so.
