Holistic Medicine

Holistic medicine is a type of healing that deals with the whole person. The whole person means their body, mind, spirit, and emotions. Holistic medicine is used for finding health and wellness. According to holistic medicine you can find the most health and wellness through practicing proper balance in life.

Those who practice holistic medicine believe that the whole person is made of interdependent parts and if one of those parts stops working properly then all the other parts will be affected. Holistic medicine believes that if people have imbalances (physical, emotional, or spiritual) in their lives it can negatively affect their overall well-being and health. That’s why a doctor who practices holistic medicine will use all forms of treatment, from modern medicine to alternative holistic therapies to bring about better health and wellness.

Holistic medicine is also set on the foundation of belief, that unconditional love and support is the most powerful type of healing and that each person is responsible for their own health and well-being. Holistic medicine believes that all people have the power within themselves to heal. Holistic medicine believes that all people have innate healing powers. Holistic medicine also follows the principle that patients are people not disease. In practice, this means that each person is seen as a unique individual, rather than an example of a particular disease. Disease is understood to be the result of physical, emotional, spiritual, social and environmental imbalance. Healing, therefore, takes place naturally when these aspects of life are brought into proper balance.

Another principle of holistic medicine is the belief that healing takes a team approach. This means that holistic medicine includes the patient and doctor and addresses all aspects of a person’s life while using a wide range of health care practices. Holistic medicine involves fixing the cause of the condition not just getting rid of the symptoms.

Holistic medicine includes multiple different types of treatments. Those who practice holistic medicine use different techniques with their patients to help them take responsibility for their own well-being and to achieve the best overall health. These holistic medicine treatments include things like patient education. Patient education for holistic medicine includes knowledge about lifestyle changes and self-care in order to help promote wellness. This holistic medicine can include diet, exercise, psychotherapy, relationship and spiritual counseling. There are also multiple different alternative therapies that holistic medicine offers. Things such as acupuncture, chiropractic care, homeopathy, massage therapy, and naturopathy. Holistic medicine does include Western medications and surgical procedures too.

Some other terms associated with holistic medicine are alternative medicine, complementary medicine and natural healing. Most of these are referring to techniques they use such as conventional medicine along with non-invasive and non-pharmaceutical practices when needed.

Holistic medicine is becoming more and more popular as we learn more about ourselves and how we can begin to truly heal ourselves. The mix of modern medicine and true healing really work together in holistic medicine to help a person feel optimal health and well-being.
