Passionflower should not be taken with sedatives unless under medical supervision. It also should not be taken by pregnant or nursing women.

Also, foods high in vitamin B, magnesium, and calcium help the nervous system function properly.

Another lifestyle change that is often recommended as a holistic treatment for anxiety is exercise. Studies show that regularly working out can reduce anxious episodes greatly. Your routine should include cardiovascular exercise, which burns lactic acid, produces mood-enhancing chemicals called endorphins, and causes the body to use oxygen more efficiently. Also, practice relaxation techniques such as meditation, yoga, t’ai chi or progressive relaxation are all nondrug remedies that can help relieve anxiety disorders.

Finally, getting more sleep is a common holistic treatment for anxiety. Lack of sleep and exhaustion can exacerbate anxiety. Try to get at least seven hours a night.
